Suckapunch, I am sorry to inform you that this kind of thing is not a joke or a prank, although the author probably thought it was funny. People think like this all the time. Or rather, don't think, and act like this without consideration of the deep influence this sort of hate perpetrates.

Excuse me, but If you think Truth posted it as a joke you're probably mistaken. I Highly doubt he posted it as a joke.. But my thought was perhaps some Prick Kid re aranged the lettering..

Hate is something you do to people. Humor is something that makes you laugh. My finding that billboard funny and witty is completely independent of how I feel for Mexicans, immigrants, the diaspora, etc. I've got no problem with immigrants, illegal or legal; I don't dislike Hispanic people. Because I laugh at this billboard, I am racist?

The problem with political correctness is it doesn't let us have any fun anymore. Everyone assumes race-based humor is rooted in hate. It's rooted in stereotypes, it's rooted in misconceptions, it's rooted in caricaturizatio  n, but how is that any different from what we see on sitcoms and Saturday Night Live? Nobody accuses them of "hating" everyone they make fun of.

BrigntheRain, you are dead wrong. If you need some more persuading go check the Nazi archives and their 'humorous' depiction of Jews leading up to the Holocaust. It is unfortunate that humor is so often used to persecute people, races, religions, orientations, ect... but it is reality. Wit is not a excuse to further hate. And that is what this is.

This is an intense discussion, to each his own, and in no way am I saying someone shouldn't find the humor in this.

My take is I just don't know how someone could be so hateful. Its bad taste and I'm not really down for the statement its making.. Its rude and it was made to draw blood, not laughter.

This billboard (and its owner) have been around for 30 years or so. Its messages tend to the right, but not always. This billboard's been in the press from time to time.

Way more religeous than racial.. I wouldnt even call it political.

How dare the owner of that billboard post such a message on it. What gives him the right to think that he has such freedom of speech. Oh.....wait....  .

Whoever owns it has always had random political snipes on it which would certainly get someone irritated....an  d this one is no different.

If you have lived in the Northwest for any length of time and have travelled up to Seattle from Portland, you have seen this sign many, many times. The person who fills this sign with different saying and witicisms has been doing this or their family has for at least 40 years. Sometimes it's funny, sometimes it's tacky, sometimes it's insightful. But hears what I don't get. Where in this billboard is there hate? It speaks of a population of the worlds society known to cross our borders illegally. It makes light of it. Big deal! I'll bet you a million bucks most Mexican's that see that sign are laughing their heads off! Why? Because they are here and not down in Mexico! Because if they put up a sign like that down in Mexico, the goverment might just intercede. They won't here, because it's called freedom of speech!

Embrace your culture. Don't conform to the norm. Learn to laugh at yourself and embrace your freedoms. Above all develop a thicker skin and watch comedy central for a change. Maybe a program like "Mind of Mencia"!!!

I think you've got it backwards, eliahu77. The Holocaust was not about the depiction of Jews, it was about the slaughter of Jews. This billboard is not about the persecution of Mexicans unless it inspires somebody to persecute Mexicans, and it's doubtful this billboard alone is going to accomplish that.

Billboards don't hate. People hate. Saying that someone can't say something witty, based on a stereotype or extreme example of an existing situation, because it might spawn racism is like saying people can't drive, because some drivers are reckless and will, inevitably, kill someone. I don't hate anyone, I don't look down on anyone. Is my laughing at this billboard, then, a manifestation of some inner hatred of Mexicans?

Call it satire, call it tasteless, call it sophomoric, but don't call it hate speech.

If you think it's hate speech, Perhaps you need to look into yourself. i see a funny joke that doesn't say "I Hate" anywhere. Give it a break go ahead and laugh. My Mexican friends are OK with it.

It's not only funny, it's true. The crime rate is proof enough. Politically correct robots are the new church ladies, always finding a way to be holier than everyone else.

Actually, it's no joke -- no kids rearranged the letters. The billboard, which is near Chehalis, is on a man's private property. There's been discussion about it for years, since many times he's offended various groups of people. But since it's on private property ... anyway. He posts all kinds of crazy stuff up there. This message is in line with all the other ones I've seen for the better part of two decades.

Freedom of Speech. This billboard and its author have been stationary posting political and religious comments for several decades. This is freedom of the press, even though its a one man show. We can disagree with his viewpoints by posting our own notes here, or purchasing our own billboards.

Either the truth can hurt or we can just lauph about it. It seems that Portland's liberals have nothing better to do than complain.

I am delighted that the owner of this I-5 billboard has once again ( as for the past 40 years) managed to irritate those liberals and so-called tolerance lovers by exercising freedom of speech. There is no such thing as an" "illegal immigrant". The operative word is illegal therefore that makes all illegal aliens criminals. I don't care a wit about the signs message hurting someone's feelings. There is no constitutional right that a person is entitled to go through life immune to having their precious feelings shielded from something they disagree with. Oh- as a final shot, there is nothing"correct  " about PC. It is insanity and a code word falsely claiming that there is but one viewpoint. I have made a hobby of going out of my way to challange and get in the faces of those who demand that I exceed to the wishes of the PC crowd. It warms my heart to see the stunned looks on their faces whenever I throw their looney arguments back at them.

I'm glad we live in a country that allows us the freedom of speech, and opinion. As my opinion still stands, its dis-tasteful. As an act of "Freedom of Speech" I hold my ground when I say its disgusting and not needed.

Man I forgot how Left Wing and PC Portland has become until I read the comments here. 12 million illegals break into the country by far mainly from Mexico and we are not supposed to say or do anything. Well anything that is, other than giving them free access to our schools, hospitals, roads and social services. I have nothing against the immigrants who come here legally, as we all are originally immigrants but why should we accept law breaking as normative behavior? I dare you to go to Mexico and violate their immigration laws and we'll see how well you are treated. The reason why we have quotas in the first place is to help ensure that the country can absorb and assimilate them into the greater culture. Their actions undermine that greatly, which is why we are now becoming Balkanized. Come to LA to take a peek at your future dear friends.

Maybe if we actually dealt with the issue of ILLEGALS, and didn’t try to confuse it with IMMIGRATION (they are definitely NOT the same thing), we’d solve a big, big problem and not have to get worked up over signs and sayings.

The issue isn't illegal immigration, either. The issue is the obscene amount of wealth we have in this country compared to the obscene poverty of much of Mexico. You would do the exact same thing if you were them.

Rather than build a wall to (try to) keep people out, we need to find a way to keep them from wanting to come. Economic health in Mexico is good for the economic health of the United States. A-Rod will make more in each plate appearance than the average Mexican citizen will in four years. Do you really think it's likely to stop?

And Suckapunch - Tell me how this billboard discriminates against anyone? Discrimination, in the racial sense, is denying someone access based on their ethnicity. If the billboard owner also runs a RV park that doesn't allow Hispanics in, he is discriminating.
