Apparently Paul Allen is busy trying to find a corporate sponsor for the Rose Garden Arena, and he is offering the name of the building to the winner. The Rose Garden was opened in 1995 and has been a Portland icon since. This name change could spark a huge controversy between the owners of the building, and the hundreds of thousands of fans who consider the Rose Garden home to the Trailblazers, Lumberjacks and host to many concerts and other types of entertainment.

The Nike Arena... Taco Bell House... REI Arena...

These are just a couple of the super lame names Portlanders are coming up with for guesses as to what the Rose Garden could soon be called. Apparently suggestions are being taken for a corporate sponsor of the Rose Garden Arena, and the lucky sponsor will get their name on the building. There is an article on KGW and many Portlanders are outraged by this news. Portland is one of the only cities left with a non-corparate name for their main venue in the city. Some are hoping that the corporate name will just be added to the already existing name to make it something like, The Nike Rose Garden... which still sounds pretty lame to me...

Personally, I would rather have the new sponsor's logo covering the whole inside or outside of the building, as long as the name remained, The Rose Garden. I feel very strongly about this and would love to hear what other people have to say. Please share your thoughts on the subject with me.
