When we updated the site about a month ago, we added anonymous comments - but within 9 hours got totally bombarded with spam. We have been working on a solution and think we have a good solution now.

You can add comments without being logged in now, and we allow you to provide a nickname and a url if you want to link to your blog or myspace or whatever. We are using the Akismet service to test comments to see if they look like spam, and if it thinks the post is spam, it gets one 'flag' on it. As always, anyone can flag a comment if they think its inappropriate, and if it has 2 or more, it gets hidden. So, Akismet will give this process a little kickstart and then everyone will have to chip in to flag stuff that looks like spam. If thins get out of hand again, we may give Akismet 2 votes, but we don't really want to do that if we don't have to.

Let us know what you think and if this is working for everyone! We believe it is very important to allow anonymous contribution (like the tipline and comments) to get the most contribution possible from the community, as well as to provide a voice to those who want to remain unknown.
