My first day at the school went well. I arrived ten minutes before class begins and was able to meet and speak with the classroom teacher. Then I saw each of the students walk into the classroom and sit at their desks. They all noticed me sitting at a table in the back of the room, but nobody paid much attention to me at first. After she introduced me and encouraged the class to interact with me I quickly had a few new friends.

The classroom is very colorful and is filled with books. There are four computers on one side of the room, but I have not seen them in use yet. There is also a projector in the room rather than the old school overhead projectors that I had in elementary school. One entire side of the classroom is covered with windows and it really brightens up the entire room.

I observed for awhile and then helped the teacher by photocopying materials for class. While my 3rd grade class went to their elective classes (yes, elective classes in 3rd grade) I did some more photocopying. As I waited for some copies to finish I noticed a photography class of eight year olds holding digital cameras snapping photos. One student recognized me and as she walked up and put the camera in front of my face she directs me to smile. She then showed me the picture she had just taken of me and continued down the hall with her class. There are a couple of students that have been very friendly towards me and talk to me whenever they get the chance. One student even waved at me from across the classroom.

When it was time for lunch I was invited into the staff room by my classroom teacher, and was introduced to the other faculty. When it was time to go outside I walked around for awhile before running into a girl from my class. We walked around and spoke for a bit before recess ended and it was time for me to leave. The students were sad when my four hour shift was ending, but I promised them that I would be back next Friday.
