I'm burying this place but you'll catch me there anyway. Its big, smoky, horribly decorated, and I can't quite figure out what they are trying to do here. Its a pizza place with VERY bad pizza. It's a pool hall with broken pool tables. It's a hangout spot with no atmosphere. Oh well, at least the drinks are sort of cheap and you can sometimes find a table.

Just in there recently. The place looks better than it used to after it's remodel but still only just okay. It's nothing to go out of your way for. It's only $4 for a Microbrew. I didn't have nor did I ask how much the wells were. Post remodel they have 6 Pool tables and still one of them was broken. Several noticeabley used sticks (recommend bringing your own) when you test them by rolling them across the table top to see how straight/wobbly they roll. The pool tables cost only $0.75 a game and not at an hourly rate! Pizza tasted okay but noticeably better than the greasy shit they used to serve! The seating is nicer than it used to be. The bar itself is a much nicer bar and is a fairly sized rectangle shaped bar with 3 sides available to seating. The only conundrum I have with this place is that I was in there when it wasn't even crowded and it seemed stuffy almost like the AC might have been broken or something. Or maybe there still finishing things up with the remodel but it was stuffy for a not so crowded at the time yet openly spaced place. Staff was friendly. They also recently just started having a DJ that will be playing Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights and will be setting up to play at 10pm.

Do not go here. Nor to Sam (owners) other locations - Nob Hill Pharmacy Cafe, or Uptown Silver Dollar. He is a terrible neighbor, there is so much trash around his busniesses, you'd think that we were in a third world country with no city service. If anyone bases their decision on this kind of thing, he doesn't care about what kind of impact he has on the neighborhood - as long as people come in and buy his low budget beer and food, screw the rest of us. Neighbors have tried to work with him, he could care less. Not someone I want around. For evidence, see the photo of the sidewalk in front of the pharmacy cafe (which his outdoor seating faces).

Hey Pierznik, welcome to public press and thanks for the post. What have the neighbors tried to do? I am willing to go confront him. I think we should track this issue with more photos etc and try to get him to be a better neighbor.

We have tried for 5 years to appeal to his sensibiiities. He appeases us in person, maybe wil make an extra effort for a week or so, then it's back to the same. Yesterday I went to talk to him, he wasn't there but his wife was. She is a bit more, well, aggressive. She first blamed it on the businesses up the street washing their trash down the street. (I pointed out that the street never looked that way when the Pharmacy was still around - now it's The Pharmacy Cafe. Plus, I see the other businesses - Urban Fondue, Bartini, Sammy's Flowers, Trader Joe's cleaning up). Then she said I don't know what I'm talking about. Then, it was the city's fault for not picking up the trash and they don't have any legal obligation to clean up outside of the bar. I pointed out that everyone does that - Urban Fondue, all of the places on 21st and 23rd because it's the right thing to do, whatever the legal situation was. So then she extended the kind invitation for me to come clean it up myself. She was a bit of a ranter, full of excuses and kept telling me that I don't know what I'm talking about. Funny because we were standing RIGHT near the sidewalk with all of the trash. Other people on NWDA have tried to appeal to them as well - bottom line, they're not interested in an easy agreeable solution. This morning I called the nusiance dept to file a report with the city, I was told that I couldn't file one because there was already an open case against him. I think that the more people involved, the better. The city (nusiance dept) needs to hear from a bunch of us, in writing. They are applying for a liquor license at The Pharmacy Cafe, maybe with enough pressure he may pay attention to how he treats the neighborhood. I will continue with the photos - daily in fact, on good days and bad to have a true record of what goes on.
