Chicken on a Beer
thumbnail

So this past weekend, my roommate and i decided to host our own dinner party. It was our post-Thanksgivi  ng relaxing get-together with friends- family not invited! We debated what to cook, and wanted to keep it in the spirit of T-day, so we decided to do chicken instead of turkey.

Well my roommate had a brilliant idea that apparently she had seen once before. So we did Chicken on a Beer. Yep, you heard me- chicken on a beer. I don't know what the official ...253 more words Click for full details

TriMet Increases in September
thumbnail

On September 1st, TriMet tickets will increase $.05-- AGAIN!

Maybe if they actually reinforced ticket checks, they'd find that they'd probably start making a whole lot more money than they do by increasing the price every few months.

For those of us that actually pay, even these small increases add up- whereas those that consistently don't could give a damn.. "oh that's just another five cents i don't have to pay!"

That's just my not-so-humble ...1 more words Click for full details

Logo - HRC Presidential Forum

Last night there was a monumental moment in the history of US politics: Logo, MTV's new LGBT network, hosted a presidential forum specifically on LGBT rights.

In short, it was amazing.

Six of the leading Democratic candidates gave their opinions on LGBT rights and how they would deal with them if elected.

I felt that everyone (with the exception of one guy) had really insightful things to say.. I've gained even more respect for Obama and Clinton. I've seen Dennis ...95 more words Click for full details

Use Your Rod Vision, Kid!
thumbnail

Did you ever have the experience of looking up at the nightsky, trying to focus on the stars, and not being able to? Didn't it seem like whenever you tried to look directly at a particular star, it seemed to disappear, but when you looked just next to it, it came back into focus? I wondered this in bed for years as i stared around at things around my room in the dark, and finally i learned this basic explanation.

Your eye is made of Rods and Cones. Rods are responsible for perceiving ...119 more words Click for full details

7-11 Free Slurpy Day
thumbnail

Since it's only going to be 98 degrees on Wednesday, July 11th (at least here in PDX), you might want to put on a sweatshirt and visit your local air-conditioned 7-Eleven Store. It is official: they are celebrating their 80th birthday this year. And to celebrate, you can go get your FREE 7.11oz Slurpee (that's almost a full cup!)! Heck, maybe you can even get two!

Although their birthday is on 7-11, 7-Eleven's name really comes from their original hours of operation back in ...50 more words Click for full details

The Way We Eat: Why Our Food Choices Matter (an Intensive Interpretation)
thumbnail

In this book, authors Peter Singer and Jim Mason give us very clear (and quite graphic) reasons why our food choices affect others than ourselves, and why what we eat is indeed a matter of ethics. “It tastes good, and it’s cheap” doesn’t cut it for me anymore, and I thought I had moderately conscientious eating habits before! We (as Americans) tend to think of food only as an immediate satisfaction to our basic needs, and as long as we’re paying for it, we don’t need to take any responsibility ...1581 more words Click for full details

Cute Knut, the Berlin Hit
thumbnail

If you haven't heard of him by now, well- you should've. Cute Knut is the most popular celebrity in Berlin right now. Who is he, you ask? He's a 4-month old polar bear that lives in the Berlin Zoo. Knut and his twin brother were born on December 5th at the Zoo, and it was the first polar bear birth the zoo had in over 30 years.

For some reason the bears' mother, a retired circus bear named Tosca, rejected them at birth; Knut survived, but unfortunately his brother did ...230 more words Click for full details
