Since it's only going to be 98 degrees on Wednesday, July 11th (at least here in PDX), you might want to put on a sweatshirt and visit your local air-conditioned 7-Eleven Store. It is official: they are celebrating their 80th birthday this year. And to celebrate, you can go get your FREE 7.11oz Slurpee (that's almost a full cup!)! Heck, maybe you can even get two!

Although their birthday is on 7-11, 7-Eleven's name really comes from their original hours of operation back in 1927 (7am -11pm).

Also, did you know that in 1949, for the first time in Convenience store history, 7-Eleven ran the very first tv ad, which was animated and included a singing owl and rooster?

mmm makes me want a slurpee right now!!! I just watched a special on the slurpee on the food network. It was pretty cool! Did you know that coca cola was the first sulrpee flavor ever?!

i didn't know that, no! mm coca cola slurpee.. back when it was COCA Cola..

oh yea, BTW, since we're on the 7-11 topic anyway.. HOW COMPLETELY UNFAIR IS IT that 7-11 is converting 12 different locations to Kwik-E-Marts, and not one of them is in PORTLAND! The Simpson's creator is FROM Portland and mentions Portland all the time in the show, but yet our closest Kwik-E-Mart is in SEATTLE???!!! WTF!

haha thats a pretty funny Simpson's fact that I did not know! Also Cherry was the second slurpee flavor added. It was all on unwrapped on the food network. It's hosted my Marc Summers who did double dare back in the early 90's. It's a pretty good show, it tells you the behind the scenes of so many treats. The inner workings of factories and recipes, it's pretty neat!
