This sounds like a really cool community service event... If I wasn't skipping town for the weekend I'd come out there and do some work tomorrow. I'm also pleased y'all are using a cob structure, those seem to be perfect for this kind of thing.

I showed in time for clean up and got more info about the project. This last weekend, students from Reed, Friends of Trees, Mt. Scott Fuel and others donated their time and materials to get about half the triangle "landscaped". Trees, shrubs and grasses have been planted, along with weed barriers and bark mulch. Having not been involved in this or other community projects before (If you can call shoveling for an hour "being involved") I didn't know all the hoops they have to go through or how much money they need to raise. For instance, they don't have water on the triangle. In the beginning, a local business let them use water and power, but that business moved and they now have neither. To get the city to turn the water on on the corner, they need to pony up, like $2000 and then figure out how to pay for water. Water for the plant life and water fountain for people. This is just me talking here, but considering it is owned by the city (us), maybe the city could pay itself. Who pays for the water fountains downtown? Anyway, whoever the artist is (name anyone?) that is designing the kinetic sculptures for the new Max lines is going to add some sculptural lighting to the triangle as well. Of course that is going to need money for power too. They also intend to install bike racks. The next work party, Sept 15-16 will be (I think) working on sanding, painting and installing the canopies. I am going to try and head up a group of hooligans to go finish off what landscaping we can before then. If anyone if up for a couple hours here or there let me know.
Shite they need: - They are possibly looking to recycle old vinyl or canvas signs. These could be turned into some of the coverings of the canopy. - Know of businesses who want to donate some money, that'd be marvelous as well. - If anyone knows anyone who works with solar backup technology that could lend said knowledge, time or materials, that would be super-deluxe.
Wow, I didn't intend the comment to become so commenty.
This is a waste of money. Get a life.
sorry.
